Energy Citizens, a nationwide alliance of organizations and individuals committed to reminding Congress that energy is the backbone of our nation’s economy and way of life, issued the following statement on the climate change legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sens. Barbara Boxer and John Kerry:
An apparent close cousin to the Waxman-Markey climate bill, Kerry-Boxer sends a warning to America’s fuel consumers. Like Waxman-Markey, it could mean a huge new energy tax on farmers, truckers, small businesses and America’s families and imperil millions of U.S. jobs.
The Senate should be forthcoming about the sacrifices it expects Americans to make in addressing climate change. Few believe you can transform the nation’s energy sector for the price of a postage stamp a day.
Americans are rightly skeptical about Waxman-Markey. Kerry-Boxer may not make them any happier.
