Family members belong to PIPP (Notes on Recent Meeting): Gentlemen: I think something we should be fighting more aggressively against is enforcement of regulation of production water from PRE-1985 wells. I don't think we're emphasizing that enough in our discussions. Water from those wells has been separated and disposed of on the ground for 25 years or more and cannot economically be treated in any other manner. Wells drilled after Act 223 were drilled knowing the regulations and knowing water had to be collected and disposed of in some manner. Finding a more economic way to do this (such as the project you are proposing) is good but it is the water from PRE-1985 wells that affects MOST of PIPP's membership! Something to remember in your meetings with DEP, PIOGA, etc. Joyce, Secretary of PIPP

From The Derrick, Friday, April 12th, 2013 article, "Petroleum Group Pack's Courtroom" by Jeremy Johnson Weaver, Miller and others were also upset over what they feel are arbitrary laws that target independent oil producers. Weaver and Miller both said brine water has been seeping into the ground since oil was first drilled more than 150 years ago, and pointed out that brine leakage often occurs naturally, too. Furthermore, PIPP members contend the DEP turns a blind eye to other environmentally hazardous practices, such as Pennsylvania and other states’ use of hundreds of thousands of tons of salt each year for road maintenance. Miller said the salt coming from road treatment is far more damaging to the environment than “a little salty brine water coming from (Elder’s) wells.” (Johnson from The Apr. 12th, 2013, Derrick) THE DERRICK © OIL CITY, PA.
