President Obama: “Now, even as we’re producing more domestic oil, we’re also producing more cleaner burning natural gas than any other country on earth. And again, sometimes there are disputes about natural gas, but let me say this: We should strengthen our position as the top natural gas producer because, in the medium term at least, it not only can provide safe, cheap power, but it can also help reduce our carbon emissions. Federally supported technology has helped our businesses drill more effectively and extract more gas. And now we’ll keep working with the industry to make drilling safer and cleaner, to make sure that we’re not seeing methane emissions, and to put people to work—modernizing our natural gas infrastructure so that we can power more homes and businesses with cleaner energy. The bottom line is natural gas is creating jobs. It’s lowering many families’ heat and power bills."

Vote NO to “Community Bill of Rights” on November 5th!

Youngstown is in a unique position to reap the many benefits that come from a strong energy economy. Oil and natural gas development brings high quality, good paying jobs and vital tax revenue that will help pay for schools and community services in Youngstown.

Unfortunately, a small band of activists wants to keep Youngstown from taking advantage of this job growth. They want city voters to pass a “community Bill of Rights” that targets energy development in Youngstown and could harm all types of jobs, even outside of the energy industry. This same amendment was soundly defeated by Youngstown voters in May because of the damage it would do to Youngtown’s recovering economy. A strong bi-partisan coalition of business groups, labor unions, and local leaders are opposed to this amendment. If passed, this amendment would drive jobs to other cities, leaving Youngstown’s economy in a lurch.

Energy development is done safely by the oil and natural gas industry across Ohio and brings affordable, accessible energy to heat our homes, create jobs and keep our businesses running. On November 5th, stand-up for Youngstown jobs and our economy by voting NO on the Community Bill of Rights!
