National Center of Energy Excellence at Bismarck State College saw 350 North Dakotans gather as part of an Energy Citizens Rally For Jobs and Affordable Energy on Aug. 27, 2009.
Organized by an alliance of 23 national groups and numerous local organizations, the rally was a forum where Americans from all walks of life—farmers, truckers, energy workers, homemakers and others—could express their views on American jobs and affordable energy.
The Bismarck rally was held to remind Congress that energy is the backbone of the U.S. economy.
A variety of speakers stood up to tell their stories, including Terry Fleck, motivational speaker, Institute of Attitude; North Dakota State Rep. Shirley Meyer (D-Dickinson); John Berger, manager, Mandan Tesoro Refinery; Eric Aasmundstad, president, North Dakota Farm Bureau; Holly Kohler, homemaker; Matthew Becker, student, University of Mary
Attendees signed a petition urging Sens. Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan to reject costly climate change policies.
