Michigan Energy Citizens Rally

Detroit Michigan, September 03, 2009

Approximately 750 people gathered as part of an Energy Citizens Rally for Jobs and Affordable Energy at the Burton Manor Banquet and Conference Center in Detroit on Sept. 3, 2009.

Organized by an alliance of 23 national groups and numerous local organizations, the rally was a forum where Americans from all walks of life—farmers, truckers, energy workers, homemakers and others—could express their views on American jobs and affordable energy.

The Detroit rally was held to remind Congress that energy is the backbone of the U.S. economy.

A variety of speakers stood up to tell their stories, including emcee Frank Beckmann of WJR-AM; Charlie Owens, director of the National Federation of Independent Business, Michigan chapter; Doug Roberts, Jr., director of environmental and energy policy of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce; Wayne H. Wood, president of the Michigan Farm Bureau; and Scott Hagerstrom, state director of Americans for Prosperity, Michigan.

Attendees signed a petition urging Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow to reject costly climate change policies. View pictures from the event below.
