An estimated 250 people gathered as part of an Energy Citizens Rally for Jobs and Affordable Energy at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, on Sept. 7, 2009.
Organized by an alliance of 23 national groups and numerous local organizations, the rally was a forum where Americans from all walks of life—farmers, truckers, energy workers, homemakers and others—could express their views on American jobs and affordable energy.
The Huron rally was held to remind Congress that energy is the backbone of the U.S. economy.
A variety of speakers stood up to tell their stories, including Todd Mortensen, president, South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association; Ron Kraft, retiree and board member of the Utility Shareholders of South Dakota; and Scott VanderWal, president, South Dakota Farm Bureau. KOKK-AM’s Zack Nelson emceed the event.
Attendees signed a petition urging Sens. Tim Johnson and John Thune to reject costly climate change policies. View pictures from the event below.
Whether or not you attended the rally, we invite you to share your story and submit your personal videos and photos. You can also tweet your Senators or just join the conversation using #ec09.
