The U.S. economy relies upon the vital role Louisiana’s industries play in delivering the energy and products needed to keep it going strong. However, some are saying that those industries should be a thing of the past. But new approaches and technologies, like capturing emissions and putting them underground, are available to help defend Louisiana’s oil & gas and manufacturing industries while reducing emissions, meaning America stays open for business.
But we need your help.
Some state legislators in Louisiana are facing pressure from special interest groups trying to overshadow the current benefits and future potential carbon capture can offer, meaning Louisiana could get left behind.
Stand up and tell your legislators to oppose any legislation that hinders deploying carbon capture technologies and Louisiana oil & gas jobs.
What is CCS? Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is the process of capturing CO2 generated from industrial sources that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere and injecting it into deep geologic formations for safe, secure, and permanent storage – sometimes the same formations where oil and natural gas were once held for millions of years.
Here are the Fast Facts:
Jobs and Economic Growth: More than 100,000 Louisianans are employed in the oil and gas industry. With anti-industry groups campaigning to end oil and gas production in America, CCS is a job defender, protecting well-paying oil and gas industry jobs here in Louisiana and preventing them from going overseas. That way, our industry can still help provide families with good incomes and create revenue in your communities.
Strengthening National Security: In a time of geopolitical unrest, the United States must be able to produce its own energy and refill its strategic energy reserves. CCS enables the development of America’s natural resources while supporting domestic energy security. This reduces our dependence on foreign countries like China, Russia, and Iran.
A Proven Practice: This is not a new technology. Underground storage of CO2 and other gases has been used safely for over 40 years in a process called enhanced oil recovery.
