Energy Citizens is a growing community of energy activists and advocates. We encourage all kinds of participation on our site. In order to create a safe community, we ask that all advocates understand and comply with our site terms and conditions. At various points on our website, we describe the types of personal information we collect at that point and how we handle such information. This privacy statement summarizes these descriptions of what information we collect online and how we use it.
We offer users the option to provide us personal information about themselves. We use this information to enable users to communicate with their legislators and to personalize user sessions. We will not reveal, rent, or otherwise make available any personal information or email addresses to third parties.
When you register, this website uses a cookie to store a unique user ID. We use this user ID to identify you in our database, which enables you to enter and use this site for communicating with your elected officials without having to register each time.
Use of Registration Information
This website uses any information voluntarily given by users to make sure that their communications are correctly delivered to their elected officials, and will not share this information with third parties. This information may be used, however, to gauge the effectiveness of certain grassroots activities.
We are committed to respecting the privacy and security of all visitors to our website. We recognize that when you choose to provide us with information about yourself, you trust us to protect your privacy and to provide you with choices about how that information is shared.
We do not disclose to third parties any information it gathers from the website which could be used to track your individual access and navigation of our site. In order to maintain the integrity of the personal information you provide, we deploy computer encryption technology to protect your information from unauthorized access or release.
We may use email and street addresses voluntarily provided by site visitors to notify them of updates, products, services or upcoming events. Site visitors who do not wish to receive such notifications via email can choose to opt out of receiving such information at any time so indicating either at time of registration, or upon receipt of any promotional email.
Non-identifiable website visitor data may be collected and used in aggregate to help shape and direct the creation and maintenance of content.
It is your right to stop receiving email any time you choose and to only receive relevant and wanted email. We only collect and hold your email address in order to enable you to send communications to your legislators. You can unsubscribe from our email list at any time and for any reason. An unsubscribe link is included in every email, along with instructions.
SPAM and Policy Abuse
In spite of our precautions, there remains the possibility that a person will sign up someone else without their permission. If you think this has happened to you, please send an email with details to email@example.com.
This website may contain links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. We encourage users when they leave our site to read the privacy statements of each web site that collects personally identifiable information. Energy Citizens Comment Policy
Energy Citizens has a presence on a number of social media platforms, including Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter. Energy Citizens actively encourages discussion about the energy issues facing our nation, and we urge our members to share their ideas, opinions, and questions using comment features available throughout the Energy Citizens site.
Please note, however, that comments not adhering to the following guidelines will not be accepted:
- Please be sure your comment is relevant to the post, video, photo, etc. to which you’re responding. If you would like to communicate something to Energy Citizens that does not pertain to the existing conversation or content you can contact us at email@example.com.
- Personal attacks, harassment or demonization of a particular individual, public official or organization are not tolerated. Postings that are libelous, defamatory, false, abusive, threatening, harassing, obscene, pornographic, violent, inflammatory or disruptive will be taken down.
- Comments should contribute to the dialogue and be respectful of other Energy Citizens, API, and its member companies.
User-submitted comments represent the thoughts and opinions of the individual publishing the comment and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of or endorsement by Energy Citizens or the American Petroleum Institute (API). However, if a comment does not adhere to this Comment Policy or the terms and conditions of the site, Energy Citizens reserves the right to remove the comment without prior notice and/or withdraw the individual’s access to the Web property.
Please note also that API represents more than 400 member companies involved in all aspects of the oil and natural gas industry. As a trade organization, API is subject to federal and state antitrust laws. As a result, Energy Citizens and API may edit, remove, or refuse to add any content on this site if it conflicts with or has the potential to be misconstrued as conflicting with API’s antitrust policies and principles.
User Generated Content Policy
By submitting user generated content to Energy Citizens, you will grant to Energy Citizens and The American Petroleum Institute (“API”) and its representatives, employees, agents and assigns, the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use, re-use, display, distribute, transmit, copy, reproduce, publish, re-publish, create derivative works, or otherwise exploit, either in whole or in part, audio/visual recordings, photographs, portraits and videos of me, including my image, voice, and likeness (hereinafter called “Images”), through any media including, but not limited to any and all of its publications and website entries, for editorial, promotional, educational and/or informational purposes, internal use, art, entertainment, trade, advertising or any other purpose; and to copyright in its own name and/or publish, and/or market, and/or assign the same without payment or any other consideration or further authorization by me.
You also grant Energy Citizens and API all rights in such Images, including the rights to reproduce and disseminate such Images, as well as to use such Images in whole or part as part of derivative works and/or supporting materials in conjunction with my own name.
You understand that information disclosed pursuant to this authorization may be re-disclosed and used in a webcast and in other media outlets.
You waive the right to inspect and/or approve the finished video/audio tape or stream, print, or any other materials that may be used in connection with my Images, or the use to which they may be applied so long as such use shall be lawful.
You represent that you am over the age of eighteen (18) years and that you have read the foregoing and fully understand its contents. This release shall be binding upon you, your heirs, legal representatives, and assigns.
By signing this release, you represent that you have read, understand, and agree to its terms. You hereby release and discharge API and its representatives, employees, agents and assigns from any and all claims, actions, demands, and liability arising out of or in connection with the use of said Images, including without limitation any and all claims for invasion of privacy, right of publicity, and defamation.
