Access to Energy: Unlocking America’s Potential

Why Energy Access Matters

Reliable, affordable energy begins with access. For decades, onshore and offshore energy production has helped power our economy, created good-paying jobs, and strengthened our national security. Restrictive policies put in place by previous administrations limit access to these vital resources and put America’s energy future at risk.

America’s abundant natural resources should fuel opportunity for hardworking families and businesses. But without new lease sales and long-term investment, future generations risk higher energy costs and increased dependence on foreign sources.

Decades in the Making: The Long Road to Energy Production

The domestic energy supplies Americans enjoy today are mostly due to forward-looking leasing and permitting decisions from previous administrations. In fact, leases issued under President Clinton still provide the largest share of U.S. offshore crude oil production today. And leases granted under President Reagan still produce nearly 19% of U.S. offshore crude oil almost 40 years later!

Despite this long-term impact, previous administrations have slowed—or even halted—lease sales, jeopardizing our energy future. Without new leases, production stalls, along with the jobs, economic growth, and energy security that comes with it.

The Impact of Offshore Energy Access

America’s energy future depends on smart policies that expand access and encourage responsible production. By supporting federal permitting reforms and long-term leasing plans, we can help ensure affordable, reliable energy for generations to come.
