Support PA’s Natural Gas Industry
Pennsylvania is the second-largest producer of natural gas in the U.S., behind only Texas. Pennsylvania’s natural gas and oil industry is not only a top national leader, it’s also an economic powerhouse for the state—and one of the reasons natural gas is an affordable option of power generation.
You can help us celebrate Pennsylvania’s rich and proud history as an energy leader and the hardworking men and women of the natural gas and oil industry who work every day to make this a reality. Submit a letter below to your legislator:
Natural gas and oil supports ~423,700 total jobs, 93,060 direct and 330,640 indirect, meaning for every natural gas and oil job, another 3.6 jobs are created. That accounts for 5.6 percent of Pennsylvania’s total employment. Moreover, those jobs are good-paying jobs, providing $40.3 billion in labor income.
Creating good jobs, producing energy, and – making capital investments means there is a positive ripple effect in the economy. Each year, approximately $75 billion of Pennsylvania’s total gross domestic product stems from natural gas and oil operations.
Today, the state collects an impact fee on natural gas wells drilled in Pennsylvania, which, since 2012, has provided more than $2.5 billion for critical environmental, infrastructure, public safety and other projects in all 67 counties.
Pennsylvania’s current natural gas impact tax structure benefits all counties in the state, even those without any natural gas wells, by helping to drive economic and job growth. The jobs and industries supported by Pennsylvania natural gas – from construction to manufacturing – are vast and drive our state’s economic engine.
