From heating homes, schools and hospitals, generating clean and reliable electricity, powering farm and recreational equipment, to providing the building blocks for goods we use daily, petroleum and natural gas touch nearly every aspect of life in Michigan. And the role that petroleum and natural gas plays in our lives is growing. Michigan is currently the ninth largest consumer of natural gas in the U.S., generating significant economic and environmental benefits for our state’s consumers and manufacturers. 

By the Numbers: Michigan’s natural gas and petroleum industry supports more than 228,000 jobs, directly employs over 40,000 Michiganders, provides over $16 billion in wages, and contributes nearly $30 billion to the state’s economy. 

In addition, energy made, refined, grown, and transported here helps keep energy affordable for the families that rely on it. And by making more energy here, we can rely less on foreign sources, bolstering our energy security. 

Who We Are: We are passionate about giving a voice to the millions of everyday Americans who believe in the importance of reliable, affordable, and accessible American-made energy. 

Energy Citizens is a movement of people, like you, across the country championing American-made energy and our nation’s energy security. 

What We Do: Energy Citizens advocate for government policies that help ensure access to affordable and reliable energy and challenge those that restrict the type of energy we can use, increase costs, and ultimately leave Michiganders behind.
