You never know until you try, right?

Well, the same can be said for America’s energy development. For decades, anti-energy groups have done everything they can to keep our coasts off limits for exploration. But, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has now proposed a new five-year leasing program that could help us explore untapped potential. By expanding offshore exploration, we could create hundreds of thousands of jobs, add billions to local economies, and help boost small businesses throughout the country.

Jobs

The economic impacts of offshore oil and gas exploration and development would be felt throughout the U.S. In the coming decades, hundreds of thousands of American jobs could be created by the industry. These are good-paying, blue-collar jobs that could help many families and local economies to get back on their feet and continue to grow.

Safety

Offshore drilling is safer than it’s ever been. To protect people and environment, aggressive efforts to improve regulations, safety practices, and advanced technology have been implemented. And we know from decades of experience that offshore operations safely coexist with local industries like tourism and fishing, as well as with military operations.

National Security

This is our chance to secure U.S. energy independence. Exploring our coasts opens the door for opportunities right here at home and lifts a burden of depending on foreign countries for energy.
