| On January 26, the Biden Administration paused approvals of new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export license applications, introducing further energy instability for our global allies. These allies depend on LNG to maintain a stable energy supply and to reduce emissions and reliance on coal. With the Administration challenging the future of LNG exports and America’s ability to cultivate its energy advantage, it is more crucial than ever that industry workers understand the issue and use their voices. For America and our allies, this policy could: Jeopardize jobs and economic growth. An analysis of the 2022 pledge to send more U.S. LNG supplies to our allies overseas found that its economic benefit could be as high as 71,500 jobs per year and create a GDP boost of $46 billion between 2025 and 2030. The Administration’s reversal puts that growth in jeopardy. Hurt our position on the global stage. By going back on our promises to our allies, we could damage our reputation on the global stage and cede America’s energy and environmental leadership to other countries. Push our allies to rely on American adversaries for energy. Global energy demand will NOT decrease just because America refuses to export. That means our allies may be forced to rely on LNG produced by nations hostile to our interests. This creates a web of national security concerns. HURT, not help, in meeting emissions reductions. Natural gas has been responsible for more than 60 percent of CO2 emissions reductions in our power sector since 2005. It plays an important part in meeting energy demand while helping hit emissions goals. Less LNG exports could mean more global reliance on higher emitting sources, like coal.
